On February 21 through February 24, a few Sports and Recreation Management and Sports Law students attended networking events. The first of the events was at the Wisconsin Herd, the G-League team associated with the Milwaukee Bucks. At this event, students were given the opportunity to hold conversations with women that have had success working in sports.

The women at the event were NBC 25 News Anchor, Kelly Price, Green Bay Packers Vice President of Marketing and Fan Engagement, Gabrielle Valdez Dow, Wisconsin Herd Vice President of Corporate Sponsorships, Deb Logan, UW-Oshkosh Assistant Athletic Trainer, Jennifer Zuberbier, Milwaukee Bucks Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Kelly Kauffman, and UW-Oshkosh Assistant Director of Athletics, Victoria Stimac. All of the women had useful information and advice for anyone wanting to pursue a career in sports. Following about an hour of generally talking to the special guests, there was a panel where each guest was asked a series of questions.

The questions included how each person got to the career they have now and the sacrifices that had to be made along the way. After the panel concluded, there was time for networking and then the basketball game began.

The Chicago Bulls Career fair took place on Tuesday, February 22. It included a panel discussion, networking, career fair, and a ticket to the Bulls vs. 76ers game. Marian University students were given the opportunity to network with representatives from teams like the Chicago Bears, Northwestern Athletic Department, Joliet Slammers, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Blackhawks.

Friday and Saturday consisted of the Illinois Sports Business Conference in Champaign, Illinois. Students took a tour of the basketball arena and attended the Illinois vs. Purdue game. Saturday was filled with panels and networking. The COO of the Minnesota Vikings and the Senior Vice President of the Chicago White Sox are just a few of the representatives in attendance.

All of these events were great opportunities for Marian University students to meet professions that are willing to give advice and stay in contact for more information. The price to attend is fairly reasonable for the insight given in return and the amount of people that could help when searching for a job in the future. The invitation to these events is open to anyone that is interested. For questions or more info on other opportunities, contact Dr. James T. Gray.
