The Marian University ACHA Hockey program has definitely turned on the jets this season. Marian students have been filling the stands to come see the team get a win. The team is currently ranked #1 in the Central Region and has a 18-1-1 record. They have without a doubt come to play in every single game this season.

Some of the noticeable seniors to mention are defensemen Danny Roe, Paul Kinder, and Miles Giorgione. Jake Weldon is the only senior forward on the team. A decent number of freshmen joined the team this year and those are Nikita Sokov, Tyren Boots, Connor Rosassen, and Jarod Lang. One Sabre in particular had to sit out this season due to injury. Alex Kruger had double hip surgery last year, which has taken him out for the entire season. New faces and talent fill the current roster along much needed success.

Leadership has played a key role when it comes to victory. Nothing comes easy if the effort isn’t put forth along with teammates that get the team fired up at practice, before, during, and after games. Senior Justin (Bobs) Davidson has had a powerful role in making sure the team knows there’s always a way to win no matter what the score is. The guys have a lot of preparation that goes into being a top-rated team.

A typical week consists of practices Monday through Thursday before class and dry-land sessions twice a week. Friday and Saturday are reserved for any games. How the guys fit in homework is still a mystery, as any athlete can attest to.

“This year we have had a great season and it’s really cool to be ranked so high among many teams,” said Dan Liberko. “We are looking forward to continuing our success out on the ice for the remainder of the season.

The team is headed a few miles north this weekend for a series against UW-Oshkosh starting Friday at 7:30pm. They will then head home for the same matchup at Blue Line Ice Arena at 7:30pm. There are eight games left in January before heading into playoffs, which will be held at the Blue Line Ice Arena this year.
